Goju-Ryu

Goju-ryu is Japanese for 'hard-soft style' Goju-ryu karate is one of the main karate styles and is a traditional form of karate originating from Okinawa. Goju-ryu karate is characterized by the use of both hard techniques, such as straight punches and kicks, and soft techniques, such as quick movements and open handed techniques for guiding/controlling the opponent and/or their attack.

In Goju-ryu karate the whole body is used for the techniques, this negates the need for big muscles to create powerful movements of good techniques and instead uses the core, the ground, and the breath amongst other things. More information about Goju-ryu karate can be found on the website of the IOGKF.
